Island (2022) - Series Review: "Didn't meet my expectation yet"

Despite a great cast and amazing effects, the story of "Island" did not live up to my expectations. The first season or installment of the series ended on the sixth episode on January 13, 2023, which I did not expect to end on. The lack of clarity in the main plot or back story made me wonder what the series was really about.

I got to see the main characters as they are now, but there is still a lot of backstory missing to complete their character. This series is set on Jeju Island and follows three people who come together to fight evil, specifically demons who possess people. Kim Nam-Gil, Lee Da-Hee, and Cha Eun-Woo star in the series.

Kim Nam-Gil portrays Van, one of the two people who survive after being experimented on with demon blood. He was raised to be a weapon and trained to fight evil. Because he didn't know how to expel the demon from the possessed people, he had to kill them. Even though he appears to be unconcerned, he is filled with remorse for his actions.

Lee Da-Hee plays Won Mi-Ho, a reincarnation of a deity, if I'm not mistaken. He was a reincarnation of someone Van killed in the past and was prophesied to do so again. Won Mi-Ho was born into a wealthy family, but due to a scandal, he was forced to spend time in Jeju, where he encountered cases involving demons.

Cha Eun-Woo portrays Johan, a priest who performs exorcisms. He came to Jeju to fight the prophecy and, of course, to battle the demon. He even fought Van because Van was a demon himself.

The roles were fantastic, as were the actors who played them, and the effects were fantastic as well, but the story as a whole was unsatisfying. Perhaps because the first installment only lasted six episodes, but there were many questions about the story and it had already reached the sixth episode, but it did not meet my expectations for the series.

But, on the other hand, it was still good, and I'm hoping that all the questions will be answered in the next season and installment.
