Doctor Lawyer : Episode 1 Recap and Review : "Quite Predictable?"

Last night, June 3, the first episode of the news drama series of So Ji-Sub was aired through MBC. This drama series will be every Friday and Saturday, at 10PM South Korea Time. The title of the drama is “Doctor Lawyer”, it is about Han Yi-Han played by So Ji-Sub who was an elite surgeon. He graduated at the top of the best medical school in South Korea and he specialised in two departments: general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. One surgery changed his life. Han Yi-Han believed he did well on that surgery, but the patient died. He then got his medical license revoked. Four years later, Han Yi-Han started working as a lawyer, specializing in medical litigation. He also tries to uncover the truth behind the death of his former patient. For his trials, Han Yi-Han defends victims and tries to punish those that commit medical malpractice and negligence.

The series started showing people rallying about the death of a seven years old due to poor medical treatment by a doctor. The doctor then had a heart attack during the sentencing in the courtroom. Then Han Yi-Han appeared as a lawyer already, the event happened four years already after the revocation of his lincense. The prosecutor-in-charge was Geum Seok-Young who was played by Lim Soo-Hyang, and former lover of Han Yi-Han. Yi-Han tried to save the defendant who was suffering from a heart attack, then scenes from four years ago were shown when he was still a doctor. He performs surgery one after another.

On the other hand, the brother of Geum Seok-Young had a heart problem and he was operated on by Han Yi-Han. The whole episode 1 has shown how Han Yi-Han operates and ended on a request by the Director for a sudden transplant with a patient he didn't know who and he didn’t need to know who according to the Director. That part smells fishy.

Han Yi-Han indeed was a great surgeon that the Director wanted him to be the head of the department rather than his own son. The drama was like “Why Her” wherein two great people on their field due to unexpected circumstances change their course of life. The story was great since it will tackle certain parts of the Law in Korean which were related to Medical Litigations. 

It is good to see Lim Soo-Hyang in this drama since she is starring as well on Woori The Virgin. There’s nothing to tell about since the description of the drama was literally what will happen for the first two episodes.  Honestly, I don’t think this drama is for me, but we’ll see after watching the next episode. Why? It’s quite predictable , I guess. But let’s see on the next episode, for now let’s end the review here. How about you? What was your thought on this drama?
