Why Her is the newest Korean Drama offering of SBS every Friday and Saturday 10PM South Korea Time. Last night, June 3, 2022, was the first airing date of the Drama. It is about a lawyer named Oh Soo-Jae who played by Seo Hyun-Jin who also plays a main role before in one of my favorite Medical Drama “Dr. Romantic”. She is a talented lawyer here, talented enough to be the youngest partner in TK Law Firm but because she was involved in an unexpected case she got demoted and started her career as a Law Professor where she met Gong Chan, played by Hwang In-Yeop. Gong Chan has experienced a painful past, but he still has a warm heart. He falls in love with Oh Soo-Jae and he would do anything for her.
The series started by giving you a glimpse of a crime scene and showing Oh Soo-Jae covered in blood. Though it was just for a few minutes, it gives me that mysterious effect wherein I want to know what happened there. And is it the case she gets involved with? After a few scenes from there, they started showing events before that event happened. She was indeed a good lawyer who tried to solve every case she had, making sure she won them all. The case she got involved with was the Rape Case against an Assemblyman where she was the one depending the Perpetrator. It became an issue when she met the victim and try to make her drop the charges because she would not win against her. The victim then committed suicide in the TK Law Fim and the management decided to demote her. She was asked to take a break and offered to be a Law Professor for one semester.
At a fish market / stall where she was asked to take a break, there she met Gong Chan who works there as well. He was bumped by a customer and accidentally slipped the fishes he was carrying to Soo-Jae’s feet. Because Soo-Jae was devastated by the sudden request for her to take a break she slapped Gong Chan and left after her third slap was stopped by Gong Chan. Soo-Jae started working as a professor but she just showed up a few minutes before the class ended. She briefly introduced herself and made her way out. Gong Chan then ran after her and that’s how the story ended. But before the episode ended they showed a scene where Soo-Jae was just a newbie lawyer. By the looks of her and how she treated her client, she was a fine, sweet and honest lawyer, far from what she is now.
I like the story because the mystery was there, revenge maybe, drama and romance. The first scene really caught my attention and made me continue to watch until the end. It’s like the drama Penthouse wherein they started the drama with a glimpse of what will happen but unlike Penthouse, in the first episode they already showed what really happened. The cases also in the drama were interesting though it was not what they were focusing on. It seems that those cases were just to build how good she was and how she rose up to become a managing partner. I don't have anything to say with the cinematography of Korean Dramas, they are the best. For the reason she was demoted, from my point-of-view, she was just defending her client and that client was given to her. I know she may refuse but as a lawyer she just did what was her job.
It is also a good thing that they showed a glimpse of her past as a newbie lawyer so that viewers may have an idea what she was like as a rookie and how the world changes her. Ambition really changes a person, but what changes her might be revealed in the future episode. And I was just curious, why did Gong Chan say that she met her again? Is it because she met her at the Fish Market/Stall or he was the one from the past that was shown? It was kinda weird since the moment the past was shown it was between the second meeting of Gong Chan and Soo-Jae? What do you think? Have you started watching this series as well?
