What's Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018) - Series Review: "Fun but not a Fan"

I'll be transferring my previous blog's reviews to this one, but I'll add more comments and my honest feelings about the drama. I'll begin sharing with the 2018 tvN drama series "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim."

This drama follows Kim Mi-So, played by Park Min-Young, a secretary who has worked for Lee Young Joon's (Park Seo-Joon) company for 9 years but has decided to quit to find herself. She was an excellent secretary who excelled at everything she was assigned. She made numerous mistakes when she first started at her job, but after a while she became quite adept at it.

Though it took me years to start watching this drama, the plot was quite nice and appealing. I guess romantic comedy was fourth on my list. Suspense, crime, and mystery dramas were at the top of the list, followed by teen and school dramas, magical dramas on the third, and fourth will be the romantic drama. Though I am not a huge fan of the genre, I must admit that I enjoyed this drama for a variety of reasons.

First and foremost, I enjoyed this drama because it provided both comedy and mystery. Lee Young-Joon's mysterious backstory or past added a lot of flavors to this drama. It was mixed properly without affecting the drama's genre. I believe that this type of backstory provided a heartbreaking part in a romantic comedy that made you sad when it was revealed. Romantic Comedy drama in the Philippines is similar in that it begins with a happy vibe and then abruptly switches to a serious scene that will leave you sad for a while. But in Korea, they gave a deeper pain in the romantic comedy set-up, which may be why I like their dramas. They told a more in-depth but not perplexing story.

One of the things that kept me interested in the story was the mystery element. My mind won't stop thinking about it until the truth is revealed. The fact that they only provided a glimpse into the past kept you thinking. But because it was revealed early in the story, the rest of the episode became quite normal for me. Perhaps because it wasn't the primary focus of the story, they revealed it earlier. Following the mystery component, the plot shifted to the cast's both main and supporting, love story.

The second most important reason was the supporting cast. What made this type of drama so enjoyable to watch was the supporting cast. And this drama really allowed the supporting cast to shine in a comedic and fun way. The supporting cast that really captured my heart were Chansung, who played Go Gwi-Nam, and Pyo Ye-Jin, who played Kim Ji-A; their love story was really fun to watch. Hwang Bo-Ra, who played Bong Se-Ra, was another member of the supporting cast who made an impression on me. Bo-Ra did an excellent job in every comedy drama in which she appeared. I can definitely say that whether you are just a supporting or main lead or even appearing on just one to two episodes, every actor in Korean Drama were able to give justice to their role.

Would I Recommend this drama? I actually recommend all of the dramas I've finished. But, as I always say, there were dramas that were good for me but maybe not for you and vice versa.  As a result, I would recommend this drama to anyone who enjoys being in love and desires happiness. I hope this review provided you with a different perspective on the story and helped you decide whether or not to watch it. Maybe you're like me and read the plot first before watching a show and then decide whether or not to watch it. But I'll tell you something: there's always more to every plot you see or read on the internet. I would recommend watching two to three episodes of a drama to see if it was right for you.

I'd love to hear in the comments whether you've seen it or not, as well as your thoughts. Do you enjoy this type of drama?
