Payback: Money and Power (2023) - Series Review: "So Far, So Good"

Payback: Money or Power, or simply "Payback," takes over the SBS timeslot previously held by The First Responder. It tells the story of Eun Yong, played by Lee Sun-Kyun, who works as a money trader and fights a money cartel that is working with the law.

Moon Chae-Won plays Park Jun-Kyeong, and Kang You-Seok plays Jang Tae-Chun in the series. I'm not familiar with Lee Sun-Kyun or Park Jun-Kyeong, but I do know the female lead. Moon Chae-Won appeared in Flower of Evil, one of my favorite drama series of 2020.

The first episode simply depicts Eun Yong's life from childhood until he became somewhat successful due to his ability to remember numbers. Despite his success, he kept it hidden and didn't want his name to be known because he was an ex-convict and had been a member of a gang that harmed people.

Despite this, because of his gang loyalty and talent, he was able to earn money to improve the lives of his nephew and her sister. His new nephew went on to become a prosecutor with a strong sense of justice. The first episode did not reveal how he separated from the gang or how he was able to build his company.

So far, so good. I'll have to wait until the next episode to see if it's really that good. I have a lot of questions that I can't put into words right now. Perhaps as the story progresses, I will gain a better understanding of the plot and what the story is attempting to convey to the viewers.

It was indeed talks about a fight against a money cartel, and I hope the story improves from here. We'll find out in the next episode. I thought the acting and story were both good.
