VIP - Series Review: "I wish her happiness"

For today’s blog we will be reviewing one of the Korean dramas way back 2019. I actually knew this drama since then but I watched it just last November 11, 2021 and finished it on November 23, 2021. So the drama that I would be sharing with you is entitled “VIP”. If you have heard this one already, this drama is about having an affair, working with your husband as your boss and knowing that your husband’s mistress is one of your workmates.  Affair themed drama is very common in the Philippines since Filipinos love confrontational scenes or so I thought. Affairs are not just in the drama but very common in the real world. I know you know someone who is having an affair or wasn’t faithful to his/her husband or partner.

Let’s start this review by dissecting what I love about it. First, was the idea of focusing the story on back-end support of a shopping mall. It isn’t common yet, it has a fresh feel since you aren’t that familiar with the job they are doing. Basically, you will learn a lot on how they handle VIPs and their requests and that is one thing I like about K-Drama, more than entertainment it teaches us a lot of stuff from work, work ethics, struggles that we may face on that job and many more. Second, was the idea of having your husband as your boss and as well as its mistress. It was like solving a mystery but this time identifying who among your co-worker was the mistress. Third, even though it was a story of an affair it isn’t the confrontational type of drama. What I mean is that, normally the wife will fight the mistress, slap her or his husband, but in this drama you will just see the pain of the wife without those physical aspects. It is purely the emotion of a dignified wife you will see that will really capture your heart and as well as her pain.

The cast was really good as well, not just the plot. The main lead here was Jang Na-Ra who plays the role of Na Jung-sun. I once knew her from the mystery thriller series “Hello Monster” where she plays a detective. Some may say that Jung-sun was at fault for her husband’s cheating, but for me if someone will cheat he will cheat. Jung-sun had her toughest time as a mother who lost her child, everyone who has been through the same thing will have a hard time dealing with it. But Jung-sun overcame it and tried her best to be a wife again but it's too late. Maybe we have our own point-of-view on this matter but let me just say that if you think it’s not working anymore, end it and don’t cheat. Cheating will not be a solution and it won’t be validated by any reason.

If you would ask me if it is worth watching? My answer would be yes. But again, we have our own preferences. Some drama that may be good for you may not be good for me and vice versa. But if you love affairs, and it is really your thing, and you want to be stressed out and be hurt, watch this. My rating would be 9.1 out of 10.

The ending was a little bit sad and cliff-hanging. Just like anyone who enjoyed this drama, I wished for season 2. I wished that Na Jung-Sun to find a man who will make her happy and I want that man to be Mr. Ma. I really can’t remember why, but I put on my notes that I really wish that they end up together. I even put that Mr. Ma was a promising character, so I watched a few clips again of them on youtube and it was really cute. They are cute together that’s why. Specially when Mr. Ma became the teddy bear where Jung-sun talks about how she feels. Awww. I missed them already. How about you? What can you say about this series?
