Beyond Evil : "Everyone is suspicious" | Kdrama Review

Good day, Chingus!

I'm back on watching Korean Dramas, after a few months the first drama I've finished is "Beyond Evil". Though Devil Judge was really the first drama I watched, but since it is still an ongoing series I decided to watch this drama which was on my Netflix list for a while.

Beyond Evil is about two detectives who want to unveil the mystery of murder 20 years ago. One of this detective is Lee Dong-Sik (played by Shin Ha-Kyun), he was a capable detective that was transferred to Manyang Police Substation in a small city where he lives. His life was quiet until Detective Han Joo-Won (played by Yeo Jin-Goo) is also transferred there. One of the personal reasons for Detective Han Joo-won's transfer was to solve the serial murder that took place 20 years ago and changed Lee Dong-sik's life. The two different solve the mystery of Dong-sik's sister's death and its connection to the serial murder. This series started last April 23,2021 on JBTC for 16 episodes, as well as on Netflix.

For the characters, I was familiar with Yeo Jin-goo because he played the leading man in Hotel De Luna and his voice was used in Start-Up one of my favorite series last year. For Shin Ha-Kyun, I was not familiar with him or I was not able to watch a series of him before.

Moving on to the series "Beyond Evil" all I can say is that you will get a headache on what is going on and who is to suspect on the serial murders. Just the title of this review, everyone is suspicious at first but as the story progresses the suspicion will be resolved.

For the first episode, showcasing the highlight of the episode on the first part of the pilot is good for the viewers to get a grasp on what will happen and for them to keep on watching to resolve what happened. Honestly, whether I would continue watching the drama or look for the other one is based on episode 1 or how they build the story on the pilot episode. Since Beyond Evil has that "What!?" effect on the first part and that creepy cliff-hanging ending on the pilot episode I was able to continue watching it and now I just finished it in few days.

If you were able to read my past few reviews on dramas, this kind of drama was really my genre - the mystery, thriller, crime, and law genre. The flow of this series is different from what I've watched or it has it own unique power that lead me to continue watching it. How everyone became a suspect is a cool way of making the story interesting just like Law School, but I wasn't able to finish Law School for some reason. Moving on, If you still haven't watched it try to watch it, but this review might cause some spoilers so beware.

The main story was actually about Lee Yu-yeon who was supposedly part of the serial murders but later on reveal due to different reason. I was expecting a longer scenario before the serial murder was revealed but since the story is interconnected to another one that's why the serial murder ended earlier on episode 8 and open new suspicions on the second 8 episodes of the drama. This should be since the reason why the Councilwoman Do Hae-Won, Chief Superintendent Han Ki-Hwan, and JL Construction Lee Chang-Jin have on each other was revealed in the second part.

The revelation of part 1 and what Dong-sik took part in it was cool and interesting. How he was able to know who was the killer and how heart-felting it is on him. While on the second part it was Joo-won who was able to know the real story behind what happens and it was dramatic and heartbreaking for him. The rain scene where he decided to went to his father's car was the real deal. I think that was one of my favorite parts.

To make my review short, I like it a lot and was able to uphold the thrill until the end. To rate it 1 to 100 it would be around 91%, I guess? This is just how a feel on the totality. It was nice and great but I think there is still a lot of thriller drama that was greater. The three suspects, I suspect on the deaths and serial killer was really them. It is like "I see" and "I knew it", but how it became interrelated makes it good.

Base on my notes, Episode 13 and 14 tricking scenarios were the best. The ending, it was superb and heartbreaking especially the arrest of Lee Dong-sik. That moment really made me into tears. All in all, I recommend it to be watched, and if you already watched it comment down below your reaction on this series.
